What is not discussed in massage schools is how to keep and retain your clients.
One thing to remember and learn is the art of customer service. In most establishment this is a rarity and hardly practiced nowadays.
Here are some tips you can use to help retain your clients.
You can create customer loyalty programs that may entail a variety of rewards for frequent patronage.
Treat your client the way you want to be treat. That is the best way to retain a client. Stand above your competition by offering above and beyond with great customer service and care.
Listen to your clients. If the clients wants just their back worked on for that session, listen to what they want.
Do a complete client history and assessment so you can know of the client’s medical history or previous injuries.
It helps to remember the clients birthday. Send them a nice birthday card along with well wishes for a wonderful birthday. To help retain new clients send a thank you card.
Follow-up calls are an excellent way to check up on your new clients to find out how they are doing and if they have any issues after the massage.
Clients love extra things such as warm booties, warm lotion, blankets and a warm table for fall and winter months.
Invest in a set of hot stones and take a CEU class to learn how to use them. You will find many clients love hot stone massage.
Keep some choices of essential oils on had for your clients. Most common are lavender, eucalyptus and peppermint. These oil are inexpensive and can be found at any local herb shop, Whole Foods, Vitamin Shoppe or GNC.
You need to make sure the temperature of the room is not too hot nor cold for both the client and yourself. Create an enviroment that is comfortable for both you and the client.
Most clients do not like a bright room. Most prefer a dark room to relax in. To provide some light for you invest in a Himalayan salt lamp, aromatherapy lamp or a night-light for your room. Tea lights or a candle is a wonderful way to light the room and disperse negative energy (this is another topic and we’ll discuss at a later date.) Check with your landlord or code if you are allowed to light candles.
Music selection is great to have available to the client. I would recommend streaming music service or a variety of music choices on hands. Classical, piano, relaxation, nature or jazz are good selections to have readily available to your client.
Make sure you are keeping up-to-date with the latest research and course work for massage therapy. A knowledgable therapist keeps and retains their clients more than that of someone that does not advance their skill set.
Show your client that you do care with these simple steps.
