No massage therapist has exclusive rights to clients.
Clients may decide what business or therapist they patronage. Let’s get that train of thought out of your head first off. Clients are not exclusive to just you. They are not considered property and should never be treated as such. Just like anyone they have the choice where to go to spend their money.
There are some clients that tend to travel the massage therapy gament trying out multiple modalities and therapists. Some will search until they find the perfect therapist for them. Some are always looking for a deal. Those clients will jump around to which ever therapist that deep discount their services. You may only see a client once a year or they may schedule when they feel the pains and strains from overuse of their muscles. In all, this is completely normal for the average client.
Therapists find out through the client that they have seen another therapist for services. This does happen and happens very often. Just remember to take no offense nor get angary with the other therapist. I’ve seen some seasoned therapist demand the other therapist to stop seeing their client. As long as you and other therapist are in the phone book or on the internet, it’s a free market. Besides, you never want to burn bridges with a possible networking colleague.
Sometimes if a client cannot get on your books they will seek services elsewhere. Lack of customer service skills will also be an end result of loosing a client, too.
That’s the nature of the beast. Clients will come and go. That’s ok. You have clients that either grow with your business or don’t. This is a normal process.
Just remember not to get on that good old ban wagon and claim a client exclusively as your own.
